If your kids are anything like mine, costumes get worn all year long, not just at Halloween. Playing dress up is a great way for kids to learn basic skills. Buttons, zippers, ties and snaps are great for strengthening muscles and promoting fine motor skills. Dressing up like super heroes, movie characters and community workers adds a whole new realm to imaginary play.
Since it’s not only fun, but educational, I am always on the look out to add new costumes and props to our dress up trunk. Believe it or not October is the worst month of the year to buy a costume. I am a firm believer in never paying retail for anything. There is always a way to save on anything your purchase. Now is the time to scour yard sales, thrift stores and websites like Mr.Costumes.com for sales and bargain costumes. Planning ahead and buying your costumes and dress up clothes before and after Halloween will save you money.
Dress Up Trunks are a great Christmas or Birthday gift idea. Stocking up on after Halloween sales will give your trunks a great base. When buying costumes for dress up or Halloween, keep a few things in mind:
If the costume will be worn over clothes, be sure to order the costume one size bigger than your child is wearing. A little extra room will go a long way in the comfort department.
Just because it’s called a Dress Up Trunk, doesn’t mean you have to have a fancy trunk to store your costumes in. A basket, laundry hamper, old dresser or a special tote bag, work well to store dress up clothes and costumes.
Guess what, dress up isn’t just for kids. Everyone will have fun when the adults play along and dress up too. Have fun and make lots of memories.
As you collect costumes, create themed dress up trunks or bags. Occupations, Super Heroes, Animals, Royalty, Tea Party are just a few of the themes I can think. Don’t forget to look for sales and coupons, so your sure to save. Let me know if you have any other ideas.
Do your kids like to play dress up?
