It’s Christmas time and when I see the ads and sale flyers for toy sales, I get nostalgic. My attic is packed full of LEGO Blocks! We have a 20 gallon tote with LEGO bricks that came from the in-laws, that were my husband’s childhood toy collection. Plus, our own children have added to the collection from gifts they received, along with sets they saved their own money to buy. We even found some great additions to our collections at yard sales.
LEGO blocks are such a classic toy that everyone loves. I have so many fond memories of our family spending hours at the dining room table, creating and building with LEGO. So many hours were spent and so many lessons learned, all around a simple LEGO block. It’s one toy that never goes out of style and can be passed on from generation to generation.
I also teach preschool and use LEGO blocks with my kiddos in class. They are an excellent way to teach colors, shapes, sorting, counting and more. Plus, putting together and taking apart LEGO blocks is a perfect activity to increase fine motor strength in preschoolers. Strong fine motor skills are a precursor for school success, so play with those LEGO blocks!
You can find such a wide variety of Lego games, there is always something someone will like. Some of our favorite sets included dinosaurs, pirates, Star Wars and motorized vehicles. The LEGO for girls sets were a hit with our daughter. Our tote has some purple, pink and pastel colored blocks in it too.
Does your family have a special holiday toy that brings back precious memories? Be sure to share, I would love to hear your stories. Merry Christmas!

Lego’s are a huge hit in our household. They usually end up as gifts for my husband, then he builds things for the kids!

I think my daughter is still a little too young for Legos, at least that’s what i keep telling myself because I don’t want to pick them up…lol!

Lego for Christmas is a tradition in our family, has been for over 18 years. Now to just get the kids to stop leaving them on the floor 🙂
