I recently got to take a sneak peek online of the independent film “Mighty Fine‘ being released in theaters starting on May 25th. Mighty Fine is an independent film by Debbie Goodstein with some big name stars. Andy McDowell stars as the wife Stella, Chazz Palmenteri stars as the Dad , Joe Fine and one of the daughters is portrayed by Rainey Qualley (McDowell’s real life daughter) and the other daughter is portrayed by Jodelle Federland.
This movie focuses on the dysfunction of a family hiding its true problems and family woes behind the doors of their home. Joe Fine a garment manufacturer, moves his family from NY to Louisiana in a desperate move to save his business and as far as I was concerned, try to buy his families love with fancy cars, house and friends. One thing for sure, the family tried hard to put up a front, so others would think they were a “normal” loving family.
I enjoyed the film. Growing up in a house with a father with a short fuse I could relate to the reactions the girls had to their father’s outbursts. Joe Fine had a very demanding personality and his sometimes erratic behavior brought back some not so fond memories of my own childhood. I think the reality of emotional abuse is being being recognized and addressed nowadays, more than it ever has been in the past. Hopefully, if someone suffering from this abuse in their own family setting may be empowered by the film and seek the help they need to move past the strains of an abusive family situation.
The movie does have some harsh scenes and some language not appropriate for children, so please keep that in mind if you get the chance to see, Mighty Fine. The movie is being released in select theaters on May 25th. You can check here to see where the movie is playing near you.
During the movie, we had the chance to chat with other other viewers and discuss the film. After the showing, we had the privilege of on screen interviews with Joe (Chazz Palmenteri) and Maddie (Rainey Qualley). That was a great experience, to be able to ask the actors questions and hear their impressions of the characters and their roles. I was enthralled by having the actors live on my computer screen, it was a great experience.
I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom CentralConsulting for Mighty Fine and the distributor. I received access to an online showing of the film and a promotional item to thank me for participating”
