I just got back from visiting my 87 year old Grandma. She is active and spry and really doesn’t seem that old, especially to me. She still lives in her home and I worry about her. People stop by regularly to check on her, but it’s always in the back of my mind, what if? She has been an insulin dependent diabetic for almost 20 years and we’ve had a scare or two with medical problems over the past few years.
My family and I have been discussing getting some kind of senior medical alarm system for her. I keep picturing the commercial on TV, “Help, I have fallen and I can’t get up.” Those commercials were corny, but a reality for a senior living alone. We have tried installing extra cordless phones in the bathroom and kitchen, but every time I visit they are unplugged, so that isn’t helping. We have to get serious and fine something quickly.
Medical Alert from Home Security Store is one of the options I have been checking out. I like to comparison shop and make sure we will have all the bases covered. I want her to have a transmitter to wear, immediate help when she needs it and a reliable service. We are really leaning toward this kind of a service that has 24 hour monitoring, not just for our peace of mind, but for hers, too.
Do you have an elderly or disabled family member that could benefit from a senior medical alarm? I would love to hear your comments on what supports you have in place to ease your mind.
