The Christmas season is fast approaching. Earlier than ever, stores are decorating, releasing ads and promoting the season, before Thanksgiving even arrives. The hustle and bustle (aka STRESS) of the upcoming events is starting to way heavy on many hearts.
Sometimes, you just have to stop and think about what is really important to you and your family. Why are you celebrating Christmas? What can you do to bring the most comfort and joy to your family?
Waking up early Christmas morning, opening gifts and celebrating the birth of Jesus with our family, has always brought me comfort and joy. This year for the first time one of our children is living on his own, so our traditions will start to change a bit. It will also be the first year, that the whole family doesn’t walk through the field of our local Christmas Tree Farm and argue pick out the perfect tree. It has to be a certain height, not too full, but not too shabby. The needles have to be soft, but strong enough to hold all of our traditional ornaments and the list of must haves could go on forever. Our two youngest children are adamant about keeping a “real” Christmas Tree as part of our home traditions. I like to tease them about purchasing an artificial tree, but deep down the “real” tree, is just one more thing, that gives me comfort and joy, making being at home for the holidays a cherished tradition.
I love being at home for the holidays. Curled up in my comfy pajamas, sipping hot tea and enjoying my family. Eventually stirring for my second love, visiting family and friends. Still, nothing beats the comfort of being home for the holidays. Our kids are getting older and I appreciate them being home, more than I thought I could. The saying, ” You are going to miss these days”, rings true, as your kids become adults and start living on their own. Every day is a gift, that is why they call it the present. Be sure to celebrate your joys and relish in the comforts you have.
These are just a few of the little things that bring comfort and joy to my heart over the holidays. What happens at your home over the holidays? What holiday traditions bring you the most comfort and joy?

I love Christmas! We have so many great memories with the kids. You definitely do miss them when they were younger. Now mine are teenagers and it’s not quite the same.

Thanks Ellen! Wait until they are 20 something and it really changes. I am going to need some comforts this Christmas!

A tradition we started with my daughter is Elf on the Shelf. We’ve named him Charlie and she loves him. Charlie can get her to behave in a way that I can’t!

Sarah, what a great tradition. Sounds like something your daughter will always remember.
Have a Merry Christmas

Our kids are all under 5, so tradition is barely starting to form, but this post already makes me nostalgic about how fast they are growing.

Christmas was the only time we saw e extended family, but now everyone is older and we don’t see each other. I love your traditions and look forward to doing some of the same in my own family.
