Saving Money on My Espresso Habit!

Everyone knows I am all about saving money! I love to pinch pennies and stretch dollars to their maximum potential. I am pretty good at sticking to the budget and having the money we need to get through each month. I do have one vice that I spend a bit too much money on and working on a plan to seriously reduce that budget buster. I should probably just give up the vice, but I am a working mom with 3 kids, a house and a husband, and the vice helps me function on most days. The vice is espresso.

I know I should just give it up and move on, but I am just not ready to get rid of this one little treat I get each day. Besides, if I get rid of it, I will probably just replace it with something like chocolate or Swedish Fish which is much worse for me in my opinion. LOL!

In the meantime, I am looking at ways to cut down on the expense. I usually pick up my espresso at a local coffee shop. The small (confession) large cup usually runs around $3. I don’t put anything fancy in it, stevia and skim milk. I have been researching home espresso maker machines. Of course I love the top of line models with all the bells and whistles, etc. Whenever I make a big purchase I do a cost analyst of savings versus investment, so I am going to work this out in the post.

I only buy the espresso Monday through Friday, so that’s $12 a week. One good thing is they let me bring my own travel mug, so I don’t have any cups or lids to dispose of. I like easy ways to be green friendly. I found a great machine that is marked down to $179, that matches my kitchen. It takes the coffee pods, but I would buy the reusable pod for $15, total investment $194. I spend almost $50 a month on my morning espresso stops, so after 4 months the machine is paid for and my only investment is the coffee grounds to make the espresso.

I need to keep figuring this out and maybe find a better deal on an espresso machine or maybe just kick the espresso habit to the curb! We shall see! Do you have little treats you buy that may be a budget breaker? I would love to hear your comments below!
