I have a stockpile that I call my “Gift Closet.” It is where I store gifts for birthdays, Christmas, graduations and any occasion I made need to bring a gift. I use things from the gift closet, quite often, so I am always looking for great deals to replenish my supply.
After Christmas clearance can be a great time to grow the gift stockpile. Most retailers start slashing prices on gift sets, food sets, toys and housewares just a few short weeks after Christmas is over. I was able to pick up gloves, scarves and hats for 70% off last night. Those will come in handy for donations or stocking stuffers for next Christmas. Purses, pots and pans, dishes, clocks and light bulbs (those won’t be gifts) were also great deals.
Many toys are now on sale for 30% off and some were even as high as 50% off. I usually don’t keep many toys in the gift closet. But if I can get items to donate at a fraction of the original price, I stock up! Stocking up on toys can sometimes be tricky, because the new toy fads come and go quickly. While shopping at a large retail store this weekend, I wasn’t impressed by the clearance toy selection. Many of the toys were the stores own brand that didn’t look like they would last long after they came out of the box. It may be a good idea to do some research on toys, just to be safe. You can find toy reviews on pricegrabber.com, compare prices and make sure the toys you are stocking up on are worth the space they will be taking up in your gift closet. Shopping now at discount prices for items you know you will need in the future, is a great money saving idea.

The gift closet is a great idea! Once I had a gift “box” and I forgot about it for some time and now all the gift that I had are for kids that are younger than I will be needing gifts for:( That’s what I get for hiding my gift box so high in my closet.

If we ever get to where we can stockpile on gifts I definitely want to do a gift closet. What a unique idea.

I don’t have a gift closet, but I should really start one. Would be a great thing to do with sweeps wins.

Unfortunately I do not have a big enough house to dedicate an entire closet to gifts – but I do have a gift bucket that I am constantly putting things into during the year. I haven’t shopped at Christmas-time in quite a few years because of this!

A gift closet, or even a gift box, is such a great way to save money throughout the year. Thanks for the reminder to check out the great deals out there!
