Wow I can not believe it is August already. Summer is flying by. Our family is full swing into back to school mode. Band camp started for my son and his first day of his senior year of high school is only a few weeks away. Our daughter is slowly gathering everything she needs and maybe some stuff she doesn’t actually need, to head to her junior year of college. The material things she needs for her apartment have been easy to pick up at sales and we actually found things she needed at yard sales over the summer, too. So we haven’t had a lot of out of pocket expenses, yet.
The textbooks have been the most difficult purchase she needs to make. We learned some time ago that purchasing text books, especially new text books is a waste of money. That mistake was made only once and we will never fall in to that money trap again. New books can cost hundreds of dollars and may never even get used in class. So frustrating!
We recently started looking at a few textbook alternatives, eTextbooks is one that has really gotten our attention. eTextbooks can be downloaded on to your computer, phone or tablet and taken with you on the go. A great alternative to lugging a back pack full of books around campus or home for the weekend. The eTextbooks are affordable and convenient. A few high schools in other states are using tablets and eTextbooks with their staff and students with success. The more we investigate our college options it seems that eTextbooks are cost effective in the long run and the best use of our families college spending monies. We may just give eTextbooks a try and see how she likes them. Hopefully, the cost savings will make it beneficial for all of us.
Do you know anyone using eTextbooks? Where do you cut costs on college expenses? I would love to hear your tips.

I wish I could have had eTextbooks when I was in college! My books were so heavy, especially when I had so little time in between classes that I had to carry them all with me at the same time. eTextbooks would have been great when I traveled back home because I wouldn’t have had to load up everything!
