Purchasing our own home, was the number one family goal for us from day one in our marriage. Thanks to a family member we were able to rent a starter home before our family began to grow. We started out in a small 3 bedroom, one bath home. We lived in our starter home for 9 years, while saving for the purchase of our new home. I was a SAHM during those years and money was tight for us. Oh how I wish, the Internet would have been a tool that I would have access to during my early years of marriage and motherhood.
We lived as frugally as we could, (so we thought) but made some mistakes along the way. The number one mistake we made was extending ourselves beyond our means. Many times, we used a credit card when money ran out, before the next paycheck, arrived. The credit card debt accumulated, our savings disappeared and the paychecks didn’t begin to cover our monthly payments.
