I like to save money, especially at the grocery store. I don’t usually go to “extremes”. Time and space are the main factors in that decision. But this week has been a little different…
Starting Mid-June I will go 12 weeks with no paycheck. I know this happens every summer and it usually isn’t a big deal. In the past I have been able to secure a summer job that supplemented my income until Mid-September. Well this year, no such luck with the summer job, so I am starting a stockpile of some items, that hopefully I won’t have to buy again until summer is over.
I made a quick trip to my local Giant Foods Store where they had Green’s Premium Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurts on sale 2 for $5. I know that isn’t the best of prices, but we really like this brand of ice cream and have 3 summer birthdays to celebrate. I am lucky to have an upright freezer, so I bought 16 of the 1.5 quart containers. I used 8 coupons for $1 off 2 from the 5/8 Smart Source Inserts. I don’t buy a paper or inserts, I get my in-laws Sunday Paper and for Mother’s Day my son and his girlfriend, gave me the start of a binder full of coupons, so they stocked me up. Total Cost of my summer supply of ice cream = $32
Giant Food Stores also had the Healthy Harvest, San Giorgio, and Ronzoni Pastas on sale 10 boxes for $10. I bought 16 boxes and used 8 coupons for $1 off 2. I found these coupons and Ronzoni they were all online printables. Total cost for 16 boxes of Pasta $8.
Oh and I almost forgot, 2 of the Healthy Harvest pasta boxes had some great peelies, that I can use to.
So I have a small start on my stockpile. Our garden is planted so that will help us with fresh tomatoes, spinach, lettuce, green beans, lima beans, peppers, onions, sugar peas and herbs.
Couponing will make sure we eat all summer long, stay tuned for more “semi extreme couponing” and “semi-stock-piling” for my “semi-homemade” cooking!

Hi, I'm a new follower from the It's Almost Friday blog hop.
I have a good stock pile of Ronzoni as well; I can usually get it for free at Kroger or Meijer at least four times a year!
Please check out my site when you get a chance. Thanks!

We get mini stockpiles of pasta when it’s on sale since we’ll eat it. Ice cream.. well.. we’d get some but not that much for fear of it having freezer burn before finishing it!

Thanks Darcy! I have 2 teens and a 2o something with lots of friends, plus the hubby and I, so the ice cream won’t last long . I actually just checked the stock and there are 8 left and one of those will be gone by Weds.
Thanks!
Michele

That’s great! I wish that I had the will power to have all that ice cream in my freezer. The kids and I would eat a bunch this weekend. Thanks for the great savings tips.
