In our area the choices of grocery stores are few and far between. I have a 35 mile round trip to work on a daily basis. There are two main routes I can travel to and from work and on both of them I pass several stores where I can stop on the way home. I plan my shopping trips out, so that I can stop after work, thus saving gas and time.
Weis Markets is a local PA based business that has been in our area for years. For a long time it was the only large grocery store in town. Our area has grown a bit over the past 10 years so now I can also pass on my drive, Wal-Mart, CVS, Dollar General, Rite Aid, Family Dollar, Hoover’s Surplus Grocery and Giant Food Stores. I still do the majority of my major food shopping at Weis Markets. Wal-Mart is too much work for me, Giant is usually a bit higher priced than Weis and I do get some great bargains at the surplus grocery, will post about that soon.
Weis Markets, like most stores, has their weekly loss leaders to draw you into the store, in hopes you will spend other monies on non sale or higher priced items. Last week, there was a deal if you bought $20 in Nestle Products you received a $5 off your next purchase of $5 or more, Catalina coupon. ( I happened to have a Juicy Juice coupon and 4 free Nestle Creamer coupons, so I spent $3 to get the $5 off coupon)
I LOVE $ off Catalina coupons, but they expire very quickly and I haven’t gotten into the habit of spending them as soon as I receive them, that is something I need to work on. Although, I have gotten into the habit of keeping these high dollar off coupons in my wallet or check book, because to me, they are the same as money.
Today, I had to use my coupon before it expired, and here is what I ended up with . 1 lb of bacon – manager’s special $1.99, 2 bags WEIS brand frozen spinach $3, 2 Sierra Mist 2 liter bottles $2, 4 Pepsi Max 20 oz bottles $3.98….applied $5 off Catalina Coupon, $1 off 2 Sierra Mist Peelie Coupon from a few months back, 4 coupons for 50 cents off 20 oz Pepsi Max (tear pad by Doritos in Dollar General) that doubled to $4. After coupons my total cost was $1.19.
I had a pretty good day for 2 quick impromptu stops. I LOVE shopping with coupons!
