3 lb bags of onion, 1 lb bags of baby carrots, 10 lb bags of potatoes, 10 oz bags of spinach are just a few that come to my mind when I think about the produce, I buy pre-packaged and pre-weighed for sale.
Do you ever weigh any of those pre-packaged and pre-weighed bags? Most people weigh their produce that is sold by the pound, so they have a general idea of what it should cost when they reach the checkout counter.
Did you know that the weight of prepackaged produce can vary and you may be actually paying full price for less than is advertised on the package?
Next time you pick up a bag of onions or carrots, take two and just for curiosityโs sake weigh them on the produce scale for accuracy. I have had 3 lb bags of onions weigh anywhere from 2.5 lbs to 3.75 lbs. 5 lb bags of apples, have weighed in at 4.25 lbs and as much as 6.5 lbs.
Stalks of celery frequently sell for $1.00 each, but the weight of each stalk varies, so make sure you get the most for your money.
Every little bit counts in the quest to save money and stretch your food shopping dollars.
Happy shopping and donโt forget to take your list!

It is amazing how much the weight can vary. I rarely buy prepackaged but weigh it when I do for this very reason.
Thanks for the tips! ๐
